The 2016 World Internet of Things Expo (hereinafter referred to as the "IoT Expo") recently concluded in Wuxi, Jiangsu. The authoritative experts and relevant government officials attending the meeting believe that after the accumulation of early development, the Internet of Things has ushered in multiple opportunities and is expected to enter a period of explosive growth.
Multiple Opportunities for the Development of the Internet of Things
"Since the beginning of this year, there are several new trends in the development of the Internet of Things, which will bring new opportunities." Wu Hequan, academician of the CAE Member, said at the fourth meeting of the inter ministerial construction coordination group of Wuxi National Sensor Network Innovation Demonstration Zone.
Firstly, the international narrowband IoT standard was born. Wu Hequan introduced that in the past, the development of the Internet of Things was relatively difficult because more than 60% of low-speed sensor applications did not have suitable transmission methods, WiFi and Bluetooth connections were unreliable, and the transmission distance was short and the coverage was narrow. The use of optical fiber and mobile communication was not economical. In June of this year, the narrowband IoT standard NB IoT was approved in Busan, South Korea, resolving this bottleneck.
Wu Hequan further explained that this narrowband Internet of Things has four major characteristics: firstly, it has wide coverage, with a coverage capacity 100 times better than current mobile communication, strong penetration, and can cover underground garages; The second is the large connection, a cellular sector of mobile communication that supports 50 to 100 times more terminals than traditional mobile communication; The third is low power consumption, a battery can keep the IoT module working for ten years; The fourth is low cost, with the goal of reducing chip costs to $1.
Secondly, the 5G era is accelerating. The Internet of Things requires both narrowband and high-speed networks. During this expo, multiple academicians mentioned that 5G technology will gradually mature and be put into trial operation in the next 2-3 years. The 5G design can support one million IoT terminals per square kilometer, which will greatly expand the application of IoT and promote the deep integration of IoT and mobile internet.
At this year's World Expo, China Mobile compared and showcased the intelligent driving technology of the 5G era with the 4G era. The reporter saw on site that under 4G conditions, unmanned vehicles have slow driving speeds and long braking and intersection response times; Under 5G conditions, the vehicle speed significantly increases, and braking becomes faster and more responsive. The network speed is closely related to the safety factor of unmanned driving.
Once again, the Internet of Things has entered the era of enterprise centric applications. The Internet of Things is not the future, but the reality, "Liu Jingnan said." Nowadays, many large enterprises have entered the field of the Internet of Things, such as Samsung. Starting from next year, all their electronic devices will become devices on the Internet of Things
Wu Hequan said that many large enterprises both domestically and internationally have identified the Internet of Things as a new business growth point. Abroad, Google acquired a smoke sensor company for $3.2 billion, entering the field of the Internet of Things with a high profile; In China, Huawei, ZTE, China Electronics Technology Corporation, Lenovo, Digital China, and the three major telecommunications operators all prioritize smart cities based on IoT technology as their main strategic direction.
In addition, the rapid development of the Internet of Vehicles is expected to drive the development of the Internet of Animals. Wu Hequan introduced that cars themselves are nodes of the Internet of Things, and the Internet of Things is redefining cars. A good car will have hundreds of sensors. Autonomous vehicle is a concentrated embodiment of the integration of Internet of Things, mobile Internet, cloud computing and big data technology with advanced automobile technology. The rapid development of the currently popular Internet of Vehicles is expected to lead the development of the Internet of Animals.
The transformation of the manufacturing industry requires the embedding of the Internet of Things
The Internet of Things will bring more extensive and profound impacts to human production and life through its disruptive transformation and comprehensive penetration. It will implant new genes into economic development and provide new means of social governance. It will bring great convenience to people's clothing, food, housing, transportation, education, and healthcare, as well as disruptive innovation to production, manufacturing, marketing services, and business models. It will bring structural spatiotemporal reshaping to everything in the physical world and also bring people Our ideas, thinking, and behavior have brought about profound changes
During the World Internet of Things Expo, the Wuxi Summit on the World Internet of Things was held simultaneously. During the keynote speech at the summit, Li Qiang, Secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee, elaborated on his understanding of the Internet of Things. Jiangsu's industrial added value ranks first in the country, and in the eyes of the new secretary of the provincial party committee of this industrial province, the Internet of Things has become an important strategic fulcrum for leveraging economic transformation.
Li Qiang said, "Since the reform and opening up, Jiangsu's economy has undergone two major transformations. The first was to develop township enterprises, achieving a transformation from agriculture to industry; the second was to develop an open economy, achieving a transformation from inside out. The third transformation is currently underway. The Internet of Things is a priority option and a major strategic choice for this transformation
Currently, China is in a critical period of economic transformation, and the traditional manufacturing industry urgently needs to move towards a higher end. Several authoritative experts attending the meeting also believe that the opportunity period for the development of the Internet of Things and the economic transformation period are rare opportunities. Seizing this opportunity can not only promote the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry towards intelligent manufacturing, but also ignite the explosive growth of the Internet of Things industry.
You Zheng, an academician of the CAE Member, said that the concept of the Internet of Things was first proposed by the Americans, but it was China that really pushed the development of the Internet of Animals. In terms of the entire IoT industry, China is at the forefront of the world. If we can promote the "Made in China" of the Internet of Things, it will be conducive to further consolidating China's existing position in the field of the Internet of Things.
The Wuxi Summit on the World Internet of Things has specially opened a sub forum on "Internet of Things+Made in China 2025". Ding Han, an academician of the CAS Member, spoke highly of this. He said, "Strong manufacturing leads to strong industry; strong industry leads to strong country. We should use the big ship of the Internet of Things to elevate the level of manufacturing industry
After the accumulation of early development, China has now formed a relatively complete industrial chain including chips and components, equipment, software, system integration, telecommunications operations, IoT services, and so on. According to statistical data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, in 2015, the scale of China's Internet of Things industry reached 750 billion yuan, with a compound annual growth rate of 25% during the 12th Five Year Plan period. The application of the Internet of Things is also becoming increasingly widespread, with a market scale of tens of billions of yuan in fields such as transportation, logistics, environmental protection, healthcare, security, and power grid.
Many professionals attending the meeting believe that China has a good foundation for development in the field of the Internet of Things, and the development of the Internet of Things has also ushered in a new round of opportunities, entering a new stage of development. This new period of development opportunities coincides with the industrial transformation period, and it is not far from the explosive growth of the Internet of Things.
